In the early age they used the mechanical counting device such as stones, trees, stick e.t.c. The Chinese later invented the abacus, the abacus was only used for addition and subtraction; hence, it could not be used for multiplication & division. In 1642, the first mechanical machine which could do both addition and subtraction, was invented by a French mathematician called BLAISE PASCA. The next was the invention of a machine, which was able to perform multiplication and division in 1671 by a German called GOTTFREIED LEBNITZ.
